NURU KANE

Nouvel album dans les bacs le 15 octobre  2021  (Tchekchouka – L’Autre Distribution)  

Découvert en 2005 avec Sigil, confirmé trois ans plus tard avec  Number One Bus, le talent de Nuru Kane repose sur une synthèse originale entre les nombreuses musiques qui composent son ADN, nomade en l’âme, tout à la fois d’ici et de là-bas. Sept ans après son dernier disque, Exile, le revoilà, tel qu’en lui-même, mais avec une nouvelle identité sonore : s’il s’inscrit toujours dans le sillon de la pensée des Bayefall, confrérie soufie de son Sénégal natal, il se convertit cette fois à l’énergie des sonorités urbaines, mêlant dans un même élan le M’balax, le Reggae, le Gnawa, le Gospel, aux programmations synthétiques et autres effusions électriques. Voilà pourquoi il a choisi comme titre de ce nouvel opus Mayam, « ressources » en wolof. Plus qu’un nom, mieux qu’un son, cela sonne comme une note d’intention, cela donne comme une direction. « L’Afrique est riche de tout. Qu’elles soient naturelles, culturelles ou spirituelles, le continent africain dispose de ressources inestimables et convoitées de toutes parts. » Ce constat est la source d’inspiration pour Nuru Kane qui, fidèle à l’amitié qui l’unit au guitariste/compositeur Thierry Fournel et aux principes philosophiques le guidant depuis petit, entend bien le traduire en un message d’espoir en direction de la jeunesse africaine. Sans jamais oublier d’y ajouter une bonne dose d’énergie propice à nous mener sur la piste de transe. 

NURU KANE is an exceptional talent. On stage he is a dynamo, energised and liberated, enthralling and intoxicating. His unique sound and presence on vocals and guimbri is backed by the magnificent Bayefall Gnawa band which includes the French guitarist, Thierry Fournel, the senegalese percussionist Mamadou Sarr on calabash and djembé, Jawad El Garouge on percussions, Hichem Takaoute on bass. All the band contribute vocals.
Following the release of his debut CD ‘Sigil’ in the spring of 2006, Nuru Kane & Bayefall Gnawa took to the road with an extensive tour of the UK followed by dates in Holland, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, France and Morocco. Whether playing clubs or festivals the response was uniform. From the moment Nuru takes the stage audiences are captivated by his physical presence and disarmed by his warmth, humour and obvious sincerity. With this band every gig is different but what each performance does share is the sense of adventure and musical risk offset by the sheer genius and inventiveness of the musicians and the palpable unity forged between performers and audiences.
On top of the music sits Nuru’s big golden baritone of a voice, clear strong and captivating he can howl, growl or spread honey as needs insist. This vocal powerhouse is backed by the Bayefall Gnawa’s beautiful chorus and backing vocals and partnered by the Arabic contributions from Jaouad.
