Seksion Maloya  – Réunion

News 2022 : Nouvel album,

 Créée en 2014, la Seksion Maloya est un collectif musical parisien emmené par Loran Vélia. Elle a compté dans ses rangs aussi des musicien.ne.s réunionnais.es qu’issu.e.s d’autres cultures, réuni.e.s autour d’une passion commune pour le maloya.

Cette musique originaire de l’île de la Réunion, née des douleurs et de l’arrachement des esclaves à leurs terres, est aussi le fruit d’un long métissage et célèbre les joies et les peines de celles et ceux qui la jouent. C’est à faire vivre cette tradition que s’emploie le collectif, à travers les concerts, la transmission pédagogique aux publics désireux d’en savoir plus et les échanges culturels lors des tournées (Réunion, Pérou, États-Unis).

Ce chemin musical se poursuit en 2021 suite à la parution du premier album éponyme du collectif, conçu comme un pont entre les différentes étapes parcourues, entre anciens membres et nouveaux arrivants, pour continuer à avancer, entouré d’une famille musicale qui s’agrandit au gré des kabars, ces concerts de maloya, lieux d’échanges et de partage.

C’est en effet sur scène que la Seksion Maloya déploie pleinement son énergie, ayant accompagné ou joué aux côtés d’artistes majeurs de la scène maloya : Danyel Waro, Jean-Didier Hoareau, Christine Salem, René Lacaille…

Le groupe s’est ainsi produit depuis 7 ans sur les scènes des festivals nationaux et internationaux : Festival International du Cajon à Lima (Pérou), Festival Pasic à Indianapolis (États-Unis), Festival Villes des Musiques du Monde à Aubervilliers…

In 2014, Loran Velia founded Seksion Maloya, a musical collective based in Paris. Musicians from both Réunion Island and other cultures have played in the band, all gathered around their passion for maloya.

Originally from Reunion Island, this music comes from the pain endured by enslaved people that were removed form their land. It is also the result of a long blending of many cultures, and it celebrates the pain and joy of those who sing and play it. Seksion Maloya intends to keep this tradition alive, through their concerts, workshops with musicians willing to learn about the genre, and cultural exchanges around the world (Peru, U.S.A, Reunion Island).

They keep on with this musical path, releasing their first studio recording, Seksion Maloya. This album is meant to bring together previous and current band members as an ever-growing musical family that shares the stage during the « kabar », the maloya jam where musicians exchange and play together.

It’s on stage that the band fully delivers the energy that brings the audience to dance and trance. They have played alongside major artists of the maloya scene : Jean-Didier Hoareau, Danye Waro, Christine Salem, René Lacaille…. They have performed around the world during the last 7 years : International Cajon festival (Lima) Pasic Festival (Indianapolis), Festival Villes des musiques du monde à Aubervilliers (France)…
